Fragkokastello
Fragkokastello belongs to the Sfakia area and is located at the south coast, in the western part of Crete, 13km east from Hora Sfakion and west from Plakias. It is a small seaside settlement with few houses but enough rooms and apartments to accommodate visitors.
Fragkokastello is famous for its well-preserved Venetian fortress, its beautiful beaches and "Drosoulites", the ghosts that are said to appear at the fortress in May at dawn. During the centuries the area used to be rich in important monuments that were destroyed over years in wars and revolutions. Much of their building material was used in the fortress..
